Live @ Lebowskis
I hold the Lion’s Paw
Whenever I dance.
I know the ecstasy of the falcon’s wings
When they make love against the sky,
And the sun and moon
Sometimes argue over
Who will tuck me in at night.
If you think I am having more fun
than anyone on this planet
You are absolutely correct.

I Hold the Lion’s Paw dates back to early 2013 where initial inspiration was drawn from the music and compositional approaches of Don Cherry, Tomasz Stanko, Anthony Braxton and Miroslav Bukovsky. Led by Melbourne trumpeter Reuben Lewis, the group has since developed its own unique sound that combines raw energy with sophisticated utterances of intertwined melodic structures, open grooves and symphonic textures.
I Hold the Lion’s Paw represents a larger collective of Australian musicians that have made music together for a number of years. Whilst the formations have modulated, the ethos of the collective has remained one of exploration into the in-betweens of groove music, group improvisation and transient compositional forms. These act almost as opposing gravitational pulls, with the musical result finding its own balance somewhere in between.
Recorded live and mixed by Myles Mumford at the inaugural Lebowskis Creative Development Residency (Cross Street - Brunswick East) - 31/07/2016.
